Animal Feeding Guidelines
Feeding the wild animals in and about Marloth Park can be extremely rewarding. However, wild animals are just that, wild. So please keep your distance, be careful, remain vigilant and take care of children. The following is a guideline of some of the animals’ favorite (and safe) foods:
NAGAPIES (Bush Baby)
Mashed banana (mash the banana as it has a stronger smell. It will attract them quicker) – Put it on the tray in the trees towards early evening and they will soon get hungry!
The two little houses hanging near the pool house usually have Nagapies that come out at night and jump around the trees, especially near the braai. The larger Bush Baby has also been spotted.
ZEBRA
Apple, carrots, sweet potato or wild feed
KUDU AND OTHER BUCK
Apple, papaya, carrots and cabbage
GIRAFFE
Lucerne
OSTRICH
Wild game feed or wild bird seed
MONGOOSE
Raw whole eggs
WARTHOG
Wild game feed, apple, sweet potato and carrots
WILDEBEEST
Wild game feed
BIRDS
Fruit and wild bird seed
Bird feeders have been provided.
PLEASE DO NOT FEED MIELIES, MIELIE COBS OR MIELIE MEAL, POTATOES AND BREAD TO THE ANIMALS.
This causes colic as they cannot digest it and results in an extremely painful death for the animal.
If in doubt, please feed the animals with wild game feed.
You can purchase wild game feed from Daisy’s Den or Toppies Hardware in Marloth Park or alternatively Obaro or the Komati Pet/ Veterinary Shop in Komatipoort near the Spar.
